Code 93 Barcode

Code 93 is a barcode symbology designed in 1982 by Intermec to provide a higher density and data security enhancement to Code 39. It is an alphanumeric, variable length symbology. Code 93 is used primarily by Canada Post to encode supplementary delivery information.

Code 93 is designed to encode the same 26 upper case letters, 10 digits and 7 special characters as code 39:

• Numbers 0-9
• Capital letters A-Z
• Symbols -.$/+% and space

Code 93 Extended Barcode

Extended Code 93 was developed to provide a means of encoding additional characters that are not normally part of the Code 93 character set (lower case characters and symbols). The Code 93 barcode that employs this mechanism is known as the Code 93 Extended barcode or Code 93 Full ASCII barcode.

If you want to use non-printable or special characters in a barcode, you can use escape sequences. An escape sequence always start with a backslash ('\') followed by the sequence itself.

• \n      New Line
• \r       Carriage Return
• \\      The backslash \ itself
• \xhh   For encoding bytes or ASCII-characters in hexadecimal notation
